Extra speed warning signs on the A325
Date: 7th June 2005 For immediate release
Road users on the A325 will soon have an illuminated reminder of the speed limit on the 30 mph stretch of the A325 near the Pinehurst roundabout. Four speed activated signs showing the speed limit and the speed camera symbol will light up for motorists exceeding the speed limit. The signs will be installed over the next few weeks.
The stretch of road is part of a speed camera route that had 163 collisions in which people were injured including 21 in which people were killed or seriously injured in the three years before the route was established.
Julian Hewitt, spokesperson for the Safety Camera Partnership for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight said: “Our aim is to slow people down to reduce casualties. The last thing that we want to do is to catch people speeding. These highly visible signs are in addition to our conventional signs alerting people to the presence of speed cameras. Anyone who is speeding after these devices have been installed have either seen and ignored the signs or need to take an eye test.”
The signs will be on either side of the Pinehurst roundabout and will cover traffic travelling in both directions. This is the second location to have such signs in the county. Similar signs are already in use on the A325 at Holt Pound. The Partnership regularly uses mobile speed activated signs on its camera route.
