Langdown Lawn Protected by Speed Cameras
Langdown Lawn, Hythe is now a road protected by a fixed speed camera which has been located there because the road has had a total of seven collisions in which people were killed or seriously injured out of 14 collisions in which people were injured over a 3 year period. These collisions resulted in a total of 18 people being injured.

Julian Hewitt, spokesperson for the Safety Camera Partnership for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight said: “The route is clearly signed showing both the speed limit and the fact that there are speed cameras. The camera signs and the bright yellow camera should alert drivers to the fact that the route has a high level of casualties. Our aim is to issue no speeding tickets at this site and we ask road users to help us to achieve this by driving at an appropriate speed well within the limit and encouraging others to do the same. If they do this they can help to reduce the cost to society and the misery for individuals that road accidents cause.”

Research by the Transport Research Laboratory shows that for every 1mph reduction in average speed there is a 5% reduction in injury accidents so even small reductions in speed can make a big difference to both the likelihood of having a collision and the severity of any accident.
