B3272 Protected by Speed Cameras
The B3272, Reading Road, Yately is now a road protected by mobile speed cameras. The 1.8 km of road has had a total of 5 collisions in which people were killed or seriously injured out of 28 collisions in which people were injured over a three year period. These collisions resulted in a total of 37 people being injured.

Julian Hewitt, spokesperson for the Safety Camera Partnership for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight said: “The route is clearly signed showing both the speed limit and the fact that there are speed cameras. The camera signs should alert drivers to the fact that the route has a high level of casualties. The camera vehicles will be marked with high visibility markings and will operate from conspicuous points along the route.

Research shows that for every 1mph reduction in average speed there is a 5% reduction in injury accidents so we would ask all your readers/listeners to show a good example by driving at an appropriate speed well within the limit. If they do this they can help to reduce the cost to society and the misery for individuals that road accidents cause.”

We always give road users some time to get used to the cameras being there before enforcement begins so we will begin enforcement on Friday 15th October.
