A motor biker who was caught by a speed camera riding at 102 mph in the national speed limit of 60mph and then claimed that his bike had been stolen and he was not the rider appeared in Portsmouth magistrates on 21st December. He was disqualified for 21 days and fined £590
Peter Black, aged 29, was caught on camera driving at 102 mph on the B2177 Portsdown Hill in a 60 mph speed limit. A check showed that his Yamaha 750 cc bike had no insurance, Mot or Tax.
After a Notice of Intended Prosecution had been issued to him Mr Black, of Northend, visited Portsmouth police station where he claimed that his motorcycle had been stolen and that he was not the rider at the time of the offence.
PC Mick Gear of the Safer Roads Partnership subsequently interviewed Mr Black who maintained his story that the bike had been stolen. A later phone call from Mr Blacks solicitors confirmed that Mr Black was the rider at the time of the offence.
Mr Black was charged with obstructing the police, excessive speed, driving other than in accordance with the drivers licence, no insurance, no MoT.
PC Mick Gear said: “At the time of this offence BLACK was wearing shorts and tee shirt which compounds the risk that he posed, a minority of riders cause the problem for the majority and this manner of riding will be a focus in the New Year to make the roads safer for all to use”
